Producer Martin Solveig Speaks (Briefly) About Working On M’s LP

Given that M.I.A. has confirmed that she and Nicki Minaj are indeed working with pop queen Madonna, what other concrete info can we dig up with regards to Madge’s upcoming 2012 album? For one, there’s a new interview with “Hello” hit-maker Martin Solveig, the French DJ/producer who, along with William Orbit, is helping Her Madgesty craft the sound of her new record. Okay, there’s not much to it — but we’ll take what we can get for now!

“We had a terrible leak … and everyone is very upset about what happened,” Solveig tells the Boston Herald, with regards to the M.I.A.- and Minja-less demo of single “Give Me All Your Love” that found its way online earlier this month.

The producer is currently doing DJ sets in the States, and spoke to the Herald ahead of his upcoming Boston gig.

“I would have considered this as impossible,” Solveig says about collaborating with Madonna. “People ask who you would dream to work with. To me working with Madonna was not really something I could do. When I got the call, first I thought it was a joke. And then when I realized it wasn’t, I was really overwhelmed. The collaboration has been an enormous joy and an enormous surprise.”

Of course, Solveig, who has five of his own albums under his belt, is hardly the first producer based in France that Madonna has spent time in the studio with. Previously, she worked with Paris-based, Swiss-born Mirwais Ahmadzai on her Music, American Life and Confessions On A Dance Floor albums, as well as her James Bond movie theme song “Die Another Day”.

On her most recent album Hard Candy (2008), Madge worked with established American R&B and pop producers like Timbaland, Danja and The Neptunes.

Are you looking forward to Madonna’s new album, given that she’s going for a more worldly vibe again?

M.I.A. Confirms She’s Working With Madonna and Nicki Minaj

In 2011, this is how news about big-name collaborations spreads: “summond to NYC by bitchesses > MADONNA and @NICKIMINAJ > cofffffiiiiiiieeeeeeeeee it iz a good day to get me tho trustttt bitches,” M.I.A. tweeted over the weekend, seemingly confirming rumors that she and Minaj will appear on Madonna’s in-the-works 12th studio album.

According to reports that have yet to be acknowledged by the three artists’ reps, M.I.A. and Minaj will join “Give Me All Your Love,” a bouncy William Orbit production with a “Beautiful Stranger” vibe that arrived online prematurely earlier in November. Madonna responded to the leak, said to be a demo version of the track, with disappointment via her manager Guy Oseary, who tweeted, “Madonna told me this morning ‘my true fans wouldn’t do this.’ Whoever is responsible for this leak, we ask that you please stop!”

The as-yet-untitled Madonna album is the pop superstar’s first since 2008′s Hard Candy, where she teamed with the Neptunes, Timbaland, and Justin Timberlake. Orbit and dance producer Martin Solveig are contributing to her latest effort, which will get a boost from a (still unconfirmed) appearance at the Super Bowl halftime show in February and a large-scale international tour.

Minaj and M.I.A. have actually worked together before — the Young Money MC made a cameo on a remix of “Teqkilla” in June 2010 and shouted out the Sri Lankan artist on three separate tracks. “I love M.I.A.,” Minaj has told me. “She’s not doing stuff for the mainstream applause, and I applaud her for that. She’s a creative being and you’re either gonna love it or hate it but you have to respect it. And I love her. When she hit me to do a record with her, I thought I had died and gone to heaven.” Minaj also recalled the first time she heard “Paper Planes,” when she thought, ” ‘Who is this bitch!?’ I thought those were like the sickest lyrics. And then when I’d watch her videos, she doesn’t give a fuck. That’s what we want more of, we want people who don’t give a fuck.”

Minaj also praised Madonna when we spoke for an Out cover story. “I’m like, attracted to women who put all else aside and just go after the goal,” she said. “If you are a woman doing that in singing or acting or rapping or even as a writer, I just like bossy women. When you have your own shit and you’re doing your own thing, when you’re on your own tour. ‘Material Girl’? God. ‘Material Girl,’ ‘Like a Prayer,’ freaking all. Madonna is still so relevant.”

Ritchie Doesn’t Regret Former Marriage

Filmmaker Guy Ritchie has opened up about his failed marriage to Madonna, insisting he doesn’t regret his time with the pop superstar even though his life played out like a “soap opera” while they were together.

Madonna & Guy Ritchie (2003)

The pair ended their eight-year union in 2008 and both Madonna and Ritchie have since moved on to find love with new partners Brahim Zaibat and Jacqui Ainsley, respectively. However, the Sherlock Holmes director reveals he’d never take back those precious years with the pop star because he was given two special gifts – biological son Rocco, now eleven, and the couple’s adopted son David, six.

He tells Details magazine, “I enjoyed my first marriage. It’s definitely not something I regret. The experience was ultimately very positive. I love the kids that came out of it, and I could see no other route to take. But you move on, don’t you?”

But he admits the marriage had its challenging moments: “I stepped into a soap opera, and I lived in it for quite a long time. I’ll probably be more eloquent on it 10 years from now.”

And although the two eventually parted ways, Richie admits he’s learned a lot from his time with Madonna.

He adds, “When you end up with a lot of the things you set out to chase and find that you’ve stumbled into all sorts of hollow victories, then you become deeply philosophical. I’m quite happy that that experience was accelerated for me. I’m glad I made money, in other words. And I’m glad I got married.”

Ritchie recently added to his family – his model partner Ainsley gave birth to a baby boy in London in September.

NME Reviews ‘Give Me All Your Love’ Demo

Yesterday we gave our verdict on the leaked clips of Madonna’s new single ‘Give Me All Your Love’. Well now the whole thing has been unleashed.

In truth, some people have suggested that it’s just a demo at this stage (M.I.A and Nicki Minaj are rumoured to feature on the final version). But to us it sounds just fine as it is.

It starts off non-typically enough with a Nicola Roberts styled ‘L-U-V MADONNA’ cheerleader shout out, before we’re zippily lead by co-writer and producer William Orbit in a polished 60s shake down. It’s clear he’s revisiting his past collaborations with the singer, with shades of ‘Beautiful Stranger’ and ‘Amazing’ abounding. There’s also an echo of ‘Ray Of Light’ in the jet powered guitar line on the verse. The whole thing seems to soar effortlessly, especially in the context of her last album, the difficult-to-love ‘Hard Candy’.

There have been criticisms that the bouncy lyrics (‘Give me all your love/ Let’s forget about time and dance the night away’ goes the chorus) are neither befitting of the grande dame of disco nor are indicative of the type of lyrics she should be penning at this stage in her career. And I even wrote a blog a few months ago saying that she ‘needs to draw from the events that have affected her (divorce, adoption).’

Blah, blah, blah, frankly. Because what Madonna’s doing in this song is so much more impossibly fun than we could have imagined that all of that talk seems unimportant.

By dodging cookie-cutter Gaga europop sound or the cold urban sound of ‘Hard Candy’, Madonna sounds like Madonna again, which is a reason to celebrate.

M, Manager Respond to ‘Give Me All Your Love’ Single Leak

In response to the leak of a demo of Madonna’s new single, “Give Me All Your Love,” the diva says, “My true fans wouldn’t do this.” She said that to her manager, Guy Oseary, who took to his Twitter account ( @guyoseary) today (Nov. 9) to address the leak.

Yesterday morning, two short snippets of “Give Me All Your Love,” the alleged first single from Madonna’s upcoming album, leaked to the web. A few hours later, the entire song materialized.

Oseary says “the plan was for new music to come out in the new year, and yet someone leaked a demo version of a song yesterday. I’m very happy with the positive reaction to the demo, but we are very upset with whoever leaked the song!!!”

He went on to respond to questions from fans, saying that the album doesn’t have a title, nor is it finished yet. “It should be done in the next month or so,” he said. The set will be Madonna’s first studio album since 2008′s “Hard Candy,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 280,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Oseary also confirmed that Madonna has written a ballad for the film “W.E.,” which she directed and co-wrote. It is due for release in theaters on Dec. 9 in the United States. He didn’t indicate that Madonna herself would be singing the tune, but it’s presumed she will.

Madonna and Oseary will be on hand at at the Roseland Ballroom on Saturday, Nov. 12, where Madonna will select the winner of a Smirnoff-sponsored dance contest. The victor will be named a member of her “dance crew” — though what that prize entails hasn’t been explicitly described.

Cyndi Lauper on her Admiration for Madonna

“I am a Madonna fan. She is a great artist, and whatever has been cooked up about us having issues with one another is just nonsense. We both had big records in the Eighties, and were always compared. But, like I said, she makes great music, looks amazing, has great style and taste, is a fashion icon, sells tons of records and tickets, puts on great shows, and is probably the smartest businesswoman out there; and, while doing all that, raising a family. Not only does she have it all, she does it all and well.”

M to Launch Second Fashion Line, “Truth or Dare”

MADONNA is launching her second lifestyle brand, following the success of her debut Material Girl label. The star’s new line, entitled Truth Or Dare by Madonna, will be targeted at an older audience to her previous offering and will start with fragrance. Accessories are planned for 2012, including footwear, handbags and underwear.

The news comes after the singer signed a deal with brand management company, Iconix Brand Group.

“Over the past several years, I have been approached countless times to create my own brand,” said Madonna. “The timing is right and I have found great partners in Iconix, who can help translate my vision to reality.”

The label will illustrate Madonna’s look as a powerful, female icon and will be targeted at women aged between 27 to 50.

“The interest and excitement globally for brands developed by Madonna are significant,” Iconix’s ceo Neil Cole told WWD. “After the highly successful launch of the junior brand Material Girl, we knew there would be a tremendous demand for a brand that Madonna herself is the face of and that truly captures her essence.”
