This is another song where Madonna speaks to the trappings of fame. In this song though I feel like she is more embracing the fame rather than turning away from it. She seems to be singing to the younger generation of pop stars about enjoying their moment in the spotlight because it can quickly disappear (The lights they will turn down). I think she is also acknowledging her place as a mentor and role model and telling that younger generation that though there is room for them , she has no intention of stopping herself (Just watch me burn). This was one of the songs that immediately caught my attention the first time listening to COADF. Musically, I love the electronic strings and the attitude especially when she sings “just watch me burn” the second time and then the music kicks back in – one of those great moments that gets me energized whenever I hear it. I really love the energy and the mix used for the Confessions Tour version – it’s a simple performance really but it really shows what a fantastic entertainer she is and you can’t take your eyes off of her. What does the title mean? I have no idea ! It’s her version of “Let It Be” I suppose and I don’t care that it doesn’t make grammatical sense – I enjoy it!
What do you think of this song? Does it make you burn or do you just want to let it will be?
