The first time I heard this song, I immediately thought she was influenced by working with Babyface on Bedtime Stories. It reminds me of the style of Babyface’s “When Can I See You Again.” It has that stripped down-acoustic and intimate feel like she’s standing in the room singing it to you. I don’t feel like her vocals are as strong as on the other two new songs from Something to Remember (I Want You and You’ll See) but there is a vulnerability in her voice here and I think it works well in the context of the song. I once again feel like this song could have been much stronger and emotional if she didn’t use so many cliches in her writing but her believable performance does make up for it. I love the way she gets a little more passionate in her singing during the bridge and I love the understated ending with the final pleading “give me one more chance.” I am interested to hear what others think of this song as I believe it is not very well liked among fans but I think there must be some love out there for it as well. While not one of my ultimate favorites, I do enjoy that she took a risk by recording such a stripped down , vulnerable song.
What do you think of this song? Does it deserve a chance?
