OSEARY LATEST MUSIC MAN LINKED TO IDOL JOB
MADONNA’s manager GUY OSEARY is the latest music mogul reportedly set to take SIMON COWELL’s seat when he departs AMERICAN IDOL next year (11).
Since Cowell announced he was leaving the hit U.S. talent contest last month (Jan10), a string of artists and music industry insiders have been linked to the role.
Sir Elton John and Jamie Foxx have shot down rumours they are in talks with Idol bosses, while controversial DJ Howard Stern and guest judge Katy Perry have both shown interest in taking a place on the panel.
But executives at Fox are hoping Oseary, who rose to the top of the Material Girl’s music label Maverick Records after she discovered him as a teenager, will sign a contract, according to the New York Daily News.
An insider tells the publication, “Guy has been in the music business since Madonna discovered him when he was 17, and he has a lot of the same experience as Simon.
“His competition just can’t live up to his level of experience and the people behind the show are slowly starting to realize it.”
Meanwhile, the source adds that Mariah Carey’s label boss ex-husband Tony Mottola, who Cowell himself suggested as a possible judge for his U.S. version of The X Factor, stands no chance of becoming the Brit’s replacement.
The insider explains, “People really only know him as Mariah Carey’s big bad ex. And producers are worried he’ll even be harsher on contestants than Simon was.”
Cowell is departing the show after its current season to bring his U.K. talent show The X Factor Stateside.
